AnyKey of Today
Taking a business concept from napkin notes to market is what AnyKey Solutions is all about.
As an "Incubator" company, AnyKey actively cultivates relationships with entrepreneurs at the business conception stage and works with them to develop prototypes, business cases, business concept validation and market research necessary to validate the marketability of a business concept -- long before wasting time writing a business plan.
Our unique platform consists of the investment of I.T. infrastructure, administrative and clerical services throughout all phases of the initial development. Our seasoned experts in their field of expertise coach client entrepreneurs in areas of business plan development, capital acquisition, early run production, initial go-to-market strategies, and exit strategy positioning.
Our clients are selected with the idea that a viable business can be developed and divested in a term of three to five years. Our revenue model is based on aggressively and cooperatively pushing a concept to maturity so that AnyKey's investment will produce a return on investment greater than our internal rate of return.
AnyKey of Yesteryear
AnyKey is a privately held Alberta corporation, founded on September 24, 1997 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. At its inception, AnyKey was constructed to enable founder Timothy D. McKay to provide professional software development services to a handful of prominent Calgary based engineering companies.
The path of the company over the past decade followed closely with the desires of the owner to learn more about business and less about technology that originally drew him into an Information Technology background. Services offered by AnyKey expanded to include business systems analysis and business analysis consulting. Software development became a minimal portion of the company's revenue stream.
Over the past five years, AnyKey has continued operations as a management consultancy with an impressive client roster including:
- Michelin Tires North America (Canada) Inc.
- Accenture Business Services for Utilities.
- ENMAX
- TransCanada Pipelines Ltd.
- OPTI Canada Inc. (Oil Sands J/V with Nexen)
AnyKey's Founder, Timothy D. McKay
My passion is in new business concepts and seeing those concepts come to the market. I am a firm believer in the philosophy that hard work and a positive attitude always brings good luck. In all of my client engagements, I have strived to bring value in day one, and to always bring "out of the box" thinking to the table.
That's what I want to do for entrepreneurs who come to the table with really unique, great ideas that are fresh. I am interested in working on projects that I can see alignment with personal or professional interests.
I believe in a "realist" approach to business -- I have all the textbook learning money can buy, but when push comes to shove, there's a big difference between theory and practice. That practical approach to business is what I offer my clients -- both incubation and consultancy clients.
I started my career by pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry here in Calgary, back in 1996. My degree is basically a Computer Science major and a Business minor.
Over the past 12 years in I.T., with only the rarest of examples, my clients have either tried to hire me on full time or extended my contract following an initial contract term with them. I am proud that my clients have trusted me as a professional to reward me with additional opportunities to serve them and I have enjoyed working with each of them as well. One client hired me as their Chief Technical Officer (on contract of course) for a period of three years. I enjoyed my experience there and really grew as a business professional in that role, and remain in touch with my colleagues from that position.
In recent years I undertook new courses to bolster my business acumen. In 2005, I earned a Graduate Diploma in Management through Athabasca University. I liked reading text books so much that I then pursued an Executive MBA and completed that in 2007. Joking aside, it was a really great program and it has given me that strategic refinement that I had forged an understanding in the school of hard knocks. All of the 15 graduate level courses in the program focused the subject matter around a central business strategy for an organization. Seems like common sense, but it isn't all that common out there in the business world.
Anyhow, in my spare time, I am working on a private pilot license,
love to play with my nephew and niece, and am currently serving on two
condominium boards for extra kicks.
Thanks for visiting AnyKey.com, cheers!
